Airdrop Farming
A user, during a stage before a protocol has issued a Token yet, systematically and repeatedly using this protocol's various functions (such as cross-chain transfers, trading, or providing liquidity), aiming to accumulate a sufficient on-chain activity record so that when the protocol genuinely issues a token in the future, retroactively distributing reward based on past usage records, they'll be included within the allocation eligibility — an earlier, more widespread similar behavior pattern that predates the Points Program covered in an earlier article.

Curve Wars
A long-running resource competition among multiple DeFi protocols to accumulate voting power over Curve Finance's Governance Token veCRV, since whoever controls more voting power can direct more Liquidity Mining rewards toward their own pool — the competition subsequently evolved into a fight over control of Convex, the intermediary protocol that itself came to dominate veCRV.

DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)
An organizational governance model where members vote on proposals through the governance tokens they hold, with rules encoded in publicly transparent smart contracts, requiring no traditional corporate board or single management tier to make final decisions.
beginner
Governance Attack
An attack technique where an attacker obtains (usually through short-term borrowing) a sufficient amount of governance tokens to manipulate a protocol's voting outcome, passing a proposal favorable to themselves and harmful to other members, in order to drain the protocol treasury or steal assets.

Governance Token
A token that lets holders vote on a protocol's rules, parameters, or future direction — the primary tool DeFi protocols use to gradually shift decision-making power from the development team to the community.
beginner
Points Program
Before formally launching a Governance Token, a protocol first uses a non-tokenized points system, tracking the score users accumulate by completing specific tasks (such as depositing capital, continuously using the product), letting users form an expectation about a possible future Token Airdrop — thereby attracting user participation and accumulating usage data well before the token actually launches.
beginner
Tokenomics
An analytical framework studying how a token's total supply, issuance schedule, distribution method, actual utility, and value-capture mechanism collectively influence its long-term value and ecosystem health — foundational homework for evaluating any token project.

Token Unlock Cliff
A release pattern in a token allocation plan where a batch of tokens allocated to early investors, the team, or advisors, after a period entirely locked up with zero release, unlocks all at once in a massive batch on a single specific date, entering the circulating market — this instantaneously concentrated supply shock frequently puts noticeable pressure on the token's price around the unlock date.
beginner
Voting Escrow (veToken)
A governance mechanism design requiring users to lock up governance tokens for a period to gain voting power, with longer lockups converting to greater voting weight — aiming to filter for participants who genuinely believe in the protocol's long-term prospects rather than short-term speculators.
